And I'm also assuming that you're equating the "christian way" with some obscure sense of glorious morality, as that's what it's normally equated with by Christians. So by saying they do not behave in a Christian way (remember, the Christian way being the moral way), you're equating non-Christians with being immoral. I'm sure that's not what you meant as you say you like this post (which I do as well) but that's what you essentially said, assuming my assumptions are correct, and it is grossly inaccurate. In my personal experience atheists are generally slower to judge than Christians, ironically it's Christians who are not supposed to judge as it's God's right only, because they have been judged against for their religious beliefs. Now please do not get me wrong and think I'm just hating on Christians. I'm not. As an atheist, I personally disagree with many Christian teachings and the institution of religion, but I do believe some Christian teachings are viable. Interesting post, Jennluna. Keep exploring your spirituality. Despite what many say, the possibilities are endless. posted by: TigerLilly (reply) post date: 09.16.04 (6:09 am) Reply to: starchybean wow forgive my typing mistakes please!... I speak from personal experiance only. I am not a Christian or an atheist. Altho I have had dealings with very religious people who , in my view are really nasty and unforgiving. Some Christian veiws ARE...great I agree with that. I think maybe you got the wrong end of the stick...or maybe I didnt explain well enough. What ever your tone was very...patronising. I hope you didnt feel I was...being condisending:) posted by: mistykalrain (reply) post date: 09.16.04 (7:10 am) Reply to: TigerLilly I understand what you were trying to say, as the majority of my family is VERY christian. "the christian way" is something they themselves have set up and supposedly adhere to. To be a "good christian" is suppose to mean to show love and compassion, to not judge, to be the light of Jesus to the world. I think your point was that many of those "good christians" are the ones throwing hate and judgement around more than anyone else... or at least close to that point. In theory, christianity is a beautiful thing.. unfortunately the practice of it doesn't always go that way... just like in any religion. posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 09.16.04 (3:00 pm) Reply to: therealspartacus007 you're an evil satan worshipper. Its because of people like you that God has turned his back on our Great country, and allowed 911 to happen. The world must rid itself of scum like yourself in order to avoid another disaster of that sort. God wills it posted by: starchybean (reply) post date: 09.17.04 (6:58 pm) Reply to: TigerLilly My apologies... it wasn't meant to be patronizing. It's just that I feel that whenver I hear the phrase "the Christian way" as being the "right way" it just helps to drive the totally unbased and incorrect sense that all atheists and non-believers are immoral. My attitude wasn't condescending, it was just in defense of an age old inaccuracy that makes my life difficult at times. Mistykalrain -- yes, in theory much of Christianity is a wonderful thing... but like all systems of power it gets used to gain control when it most certainly should not be. Whoever newbie is, shut up you hypocrite. This person's just proving my point that many religious people who claim to be pure in the sense of their particular religion really go against a lot of what their holy book tells them... posted by: jennluna (reply) post date: 09.20.04 (5:17 am) Reply to: TigerLilly Thanks Tiger, I have been away from tblog for about a week and was surprised to see the comments on this post. i agree with you that many christians don't practice what they preach. not all, but many. posted by: jennluna (reply) post date: 09.20.04 (5:21 am) Reply to: starchybean i tend to agree, there are some very valuable lessons in the Christian teachings, however, the bible is a book written by men for men. and to take that book and degrade, humiliate and persecute those who don't follow it is just wrong. thanks also for the encouragement to explore my spirituality. there are endless possibilities and contrary to popular opinion, spirituality does not equal religion. :) posted by: jennluna (reply) post date: 09.20.04 (5:22 am) Reply to: mistykalrain exactly my point. many do not practice what they preach, however, i have found that the majority of judgement comes from 'Christians', in my personal experience anyway. posted by: jennluna (reply) post date: 09.20.04 (5:26 am) Reply to: newbie thank you for proving my point. too bad you do not have the balls to unmask yourself. i see no difference between you and the KKK who also hides in anonymity. |
